D is for dark chocolate (yummy)....


Dark chocolate is made from the seed of the cocoa tree. It is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet. The powerful antioxidants in dark chocolate are anti-inflammatory and have such effects as protecting blood vessels and improving blood flow in the brain.

Chocolate is one of the few foods that taste yummy while providing important health benefits and is loaded with nutrients, quality dark chocolate is rich in magnesium, iron , fibre , copper and a few other minerals.

Most kids love chocolate but even though the dark version comes with recommended health benefits this doesn't mean you should let kids eat lots of chocolate every day! It is still loaded with calories and it is easy to overeat, so the key it’s all about moderation.


The rule is – the higher the cocoa content, the lower the sugar content. Chocolate should be limited as eating a lot is not healthy!

In cooking dark chocolate is most commonly used in brownies, biscuits, truffles, cakes, muffins, hot chocolate and many more recipes! Usually good quality dark chocolate has a 70% or higher cocoa content.
